Almost all refrigerators and freezers are made using rigid PU foam these days. The thermoplastic inner liner and the thin-walled steel outer casing are pre-assembled and loaded into a temperature-controlled supporting jig. The PU foam mixture is injected into the cavity between inner and outer casings and after the foam has cured (a few minutes) the complete cabinet can be removed from the jig. The low density (30 – 35 Kg/M3)rigid PU Foam is a superb insulant and it’s adhesive nature sticks the inner and outer casings together and provides the fridge with it’s structural integrity.
