Polyurethane Foam Systems
LNG and Pipeline Applications

APTANE ®

The Applied Polymers range of high performance APTANE® cryogenic polyurethane foams, adhesives and sealants are able to perform at ambient temperatures and at temperatures as low as -165°C, making these suitable for pipelines, valve boxes, flanges, joints and for the high density polyurethane pipe supports required in the processing plants and the distribution points in the LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Industry. Cryogenic insulation foams are required to perform in harsh environments.

Prior to application these foams are subject to a strict range of testing procedures which are conducted in the laboratories at Applied Polymers. Applied Polymers is also able to develop new products within the APTANE® product range to meet customers’ own specification requirements for any particular project.

System TypeCategoryPurpose
APTANE® – SFSSpray Foam Systems Low density spray foam systems for external insulation of pipelines and storage tanks, particularly suitable for cryogenic applications.
APTANE® – PFSPour / Injection Foam Systems – LD Low density pour foam systems for external insulation of pipelines, valve boxes, joints and flanges particularly suitable for cryogenic applications.
Pour / Injection Foam Systems – HD High density pour foam systems with high mechanical and compressive strength, particularly suitable for pipe support applications.
APTANE® – BFSBlock Foam Systems Low density foam systems used to produce both polyurethane and polyisocyanurate block foams. The block foams can be cut into required profiles for pipelines, elbows and pipe joints.
APTANE® – ANCCryogenic Adhesives and Moisture Barriers Adhesives to secure pre-cut foams to pipelines and joints. Moisture barriers help prevent ingress of moisture into pre-cut foams.

ANC – Ancillary Products

The Aptane® ANC product portfolio includes a range of ancillary products to compliment the Aptane® product range. The Aptane® ANC-A products are two component adhesive systems designed to adhere pre-cut polyurethane foams to steel pipes and joints and also to adhere polyurethane foam to foam.

The adhesives are thixotropic, have excellent mechanical properties in ambient and cryogenic conditions and are mercury free.

BFS – Block Foam Systems

The Aptane® BFS product portfolio includes a range of two component block foam systems with densities and mechanical properties designed to suit the requirements of any application. The two main types of block foams are polyurethane (PUR) foam systems and polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam systems.

Aptane®BFS PUR foam products are used to produce pre-cut insulation foams for pipeline sections and joints on pipeline systems in LNG and chemical plants. PUR block foams produced with Aptane® BFS products can be cut to specified shapes and applied as required.

Aptane® BFS PIR foam products are also used to produce pre-cut insulation foams for pipeline sections and joints on pipeline systems in LNG and chemical plants.

However, the Aptane® BFS PIRfoam systems are used to produce products with lower Flame Spread and lower Smoke Developed indices when compared with PUR foam products. The PIR block foams produced with Aptane® BFS products can also be cut to specified shapes and applied as required. All of the Aptane® BFS series products are supplied HCFC free.

Aptane®BFSblock foams meet the stringent specification requirements expected by specifiers and engineers when designing chemical and gas processing plants. Aptane® BFS block foams can be designed to meet the individual requirements of each project. Typical properties of the Aptane® BFS PUR and PIR product range are detailed in the table below.

PFS – Pour or Injection Foam Systems

The Aptane® PFS product portfolio from Applied Polymers includes a range of two component polyurethane pour or injection foam systems with densities and mechanical properties designed to suit the requirements of any application. The two main types of pour foams are low density pour systems and high density pour systems.

Aptane® PFS low density pour foam products have been used on pre-insulated pipeline sections, valve boxes, flanges and joints on pipeline systems in LNG and chemical plants. Aptane® PFS pour foams can be applied in-situ for valve boxes, joints and repair work.

Aptane® PFS high density pour foam products have been used in pipe supports where high compressive strengths, high durability as well as insulation performance are critical. These high density pour foams can be supplied to any specified density, typically the densities would be in the range of 160 – 500 kg/m³.

All of the Aptane® PFS series products are HCFC free. Aptane® PFS pour foams have met the stringent specification requirements expected by specifiers and engineers when designing chemical and gas processing plants for decades. Aptane® PFS pour foams can be designed to meet the individual requirements of each project. Typical properties of the Aptane® PFS product range are detailed in the table below.
